Charleston Eats: On Forty-One

Hi, friends!

I’ve been to quite a few amazing restaurants lately, but there is one that really stands out among them.  So of course, I feel the need to brag on it!  On Forty-One is located on Hwy 41 (shocker) in Mount Pleasant.  Although it is a bit of a hike for you non-Mount Pleasant peeps, you will not regret the extra windshield time once you taste their food.   Also, the owner is the same guy who owns The Granary, so that should immediately have you convinced if the pictures below don’t do the job!

Hamilton and I tried this restaurant with his family, and fortunately for me, we each ordered a different entree.  Check it out!

Deviled Eggs
house bacon, smoked salmon and capers

Pure genius.  Between the bacon and the smoked salmon, you can’t get much more flavor in one little deviled egg.

BBQ Shrimp
shell-on New Orleans style, beer braised, spicy garlic butter, baguette

The broth in this appetizer is on point.  It’s the perfect mix of Cajun and country cooking!

Not pictured but equally as mouth-watering:

Fried Oysters
creamed spinach, house bacon, parmesan, pickled shallots

Now on to the entrees because clearly we didn’t get enough appetizers… 😉

Grilled Salmon
leek and corn risotto, sauteed spinach, lobster-thyme butter

This entree is actually what I ordered, and I was beyond pleased.  The salmon was beautifully cooked, and the risotto and spinach pairings were delicious.  This entree was my second favorite of the night!

chicken or shrimp, linguine, seasonal vegetables, spinach-pesto cream sauce

YUM!  The spinach-pesto cream sauce really kicked this entree up a notch – a definite must if you’re in a pasta mood.

Fried Chicken
buttermilk brined, mashed potatoes, collards, Tasso gravy

If you’re just looking for some good ole country cooking, this is the entree for you.  But in all honesty, this might be the best fried chicken I’ve ever tasted.  And those collards… mmm, mmm!

Smoked Pork Chop
mac & cheese, braised collards, maple-apple gastrique

Okay, okay… entree WINNER.  That pork might be the tastiest protein I’ve ever put in my mouth!  If you end up trying this place, I highly recommend ordering this entree.

Not pictured but extremely delicious:

Lobster, Shrimp and Grits
house bacon, sweet onion and peppers, lobster, local shrimp, stone ground grits

With the exception of the pork, every entree was under $20, which is a STEAL for the quality of this food.  Also, the atomsphere is perfect for all occasions – group dinners, date night, birthdays, etc.

Try it out next time you’re looking for a new restaurant option, and you will not be disappointed!
